Russia has registered the world’s first vaccine against COVID-19 for animals, the country’s agriculture safety watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor said on 31 Mar 2021
The World Health Organisation (WHO) has approved the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine for emergency use, paving the way for it to be distributed to countries in need. It is the first vaccine to be added to the UN organizations` Emergency Use Listing (EUL).
On 2 December 2020, MHRA gave temporary regulatory approval for the Pfizer–BioNTech vaccine, becoming the first country to approve the vaccine and the first in the world to approve the use of any COVID‑19 vaccine.
The Pfizer vaccine requires two doses, ideally 21 days apart.
That being said, the vaccine has shown to have a high efficacy rate after a single dose, up to 85 percent , according to a 2021 study published in the Lancet.
