Direct Action Day, also known as the 1946 Calcutta Killings.

All India Muslim League observed “Direct Action Day” on August 16, 1946.

It was a day of nationwide communal riots announced by Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

It led to large-scale violence between Muslims and Hindus in Calcutta (now Kolkata) in the Bengal province of British India.
