Explanation

After the death of Zia ul Haq on 7th August 1988, Ghulam Ishaq Khan became the President of Pakistan.

The general elections held in 1988 witnessed the victory of PPP in 1988 and appointed Ghulam Ishaq Khan to the presidency.

Ghulam Ishaq Khan served as the seventh president of Pakistan from 1988 to 1993.

Ghulam Ishaq Khan served as Chairman of the Senate from 1985 to 1988 under President Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq and was sworn in shortly after Zia's death.

Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq, the sixth president of Pakistan, died in an aircraft crash on 17 August 1988 in Bahawalpur
