A mixture of 1 parts of A, 3 parts of B , 4 parts of C weight 72 ounces, How many ounces of substance B are in this mixture?

Answer: 9
Explanation

Statement of the given problem,

A mixture of 17 parts of A, 3 parts of B, and 4 parts of C weigh 72 ounces. How many ounces of substance B are in this mixture?

From above data we get following relations,

A/17 = B/3 = C/4 = k (say) …… (1)

A + B + C = 72 …… (2)

From (1) & (2) we get,

17*k + 3*k + 4*k = 72 or k = 72/24 = 3 …… (3)

From (1) & (3) we get,

B = 3*3 = 9 (ounces) [Ans]
