The first education commission in India was the Hunter Commission.

It was set up on February 3, 1882, under the Chairmanship of Sir William Hunter

'Hunter Commission Reports' of 1882 and 1919-1920 are of significance for the Modern Indian History syllabus of the IAS Exam.
