Explanation

• Baglihar Dam, built on the Chenab River in the Doda district of Jammu & Kashmir.
• It is the first power project executed by the Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Corporation.
• It is conceived in 1992 and approved in 1996.
• It is construction began in 1999.
• The dam opened in 2008 with an estimated cost of US$1 billion.
• It was commissioned in two stages: Stage I in 2008-09 and Stage II in 2015-16.
