Explanation

• Indira Gandhi served as Prime Minister during the Emergency between 1975 to 1977.
• The emergency was a 21 month period where the then President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed on the advice of Indira Gandhi imposed the Emergency under Article 352 of the Constitution.
• There was massive civil unrest in the country due to many factors such as:
  • 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War
  • Refugees of the war
  • Slow industrial growth
