Explanation

Kofi Annan served as the Secretary-General of the United Nations from 1997 to 2006, before Ban Ki-Moon took office in 2007.

He was a diplomat from Ghana.

On 13 October 2006, he was elected as the eighth secretary-general by the United Nations General Assembly

On 1 January 2007, he succeeded Kofi Annan.

Ban Ki-Moon  serves as the eighth Secretary-General until 2016.

He belongs to the Republic of Korea
