Explanation

Argentina was colonized by Spain in the 16th century.

In 1516, Spanish conquistador Juan Díaz de Solís arrived in what is now Argentina.

In 1580, the Spanish established the first permanent settlement in Buenos Aires. 

Spain ruled Argentina for over 300 years, until Argentina declared independence in 1816.
