Explanation

In AZ, BY, CX, the first and second letters move in opposite alphabetical order:

 A↔Z, B↔Y, C↔X (distance = 25, 24, 23...)

But in DM, D↔M (distance = 9), which breaks the decreasing reverse-letter pattern.
