General Ayub Khan was appointed as the first Pakistani Commander-in-Chief of the Army on 17 January 1951 by Prime Minister Ali Khan.

This ended the transitional role of British military officers.

He played a pivotal role in shaping Pakistan's military and political landscape.

He later became President in 1958.
