Explanation

Gilgit-Baltistan became a semi-province in the year 2009 with the introduction of the Gilgit-Baltistan Empowerment and Self-Governance Order, 2009.

This order granted the region:

• A chief minister and a governor.
• A legislative assembly with limited autonomy.
