The present age of a father is 3 years more than three times the age of his son. Three years hence, father’s age will be 10 years more than twice the age of the son. The father’s present age is?

Answer: 33 years

Let the ages of the father and son be M and N years respectively

Given,

⇒ M = 3N + 3 ….(1)

After 3 years,

⇒ (M + 3) = 10 + 2(N + 3)

⇒ M + 3 = 10 + 2N + 6

⇒ M – 2N = 13 ….(2)

Subtracting equation (1) from (2),

⇒ 3N + 3 – 2N = 13

⇒ N = 10

Then,

⇒ M = 30 + 3 = 33
